Mardy Gilyard,
WR, Cincinnati, Sr.
WR, Cincinnati, Sr.
What more could Mardy Gilyard have done @ Cincinnati?
He led the Big East in catches with 87, 15 more than the nearest receiver, & 1,191 receiving yards while tying with teammate Armon Binns for the lead in touchdown catches with 11. He also led the league in kickoff returns with 30.5 yrds per attempt, while scoring 2 touchdowns. He tied for the league lead in punt return average 12.6 & scoring another touchdown there.
For a second straight season, he was named the Big East special teams player of the year. He almost single handedly brought his team back from behind in the Pitt game with the Big East title on the line. He finished his career as the Big East's second all-time leading receiver.
He did everything a team could ask in his college career.
Gilyard should be a high-round draft pick, a slender 185 lbs. on his 6 foot 1 frame. I've got to believe he'll be a productive player at the next level. Even NFL Rookie of the Year potential depending where he will wind up.
You could make a strong case for Gilyard as the Big East's best player in 2009', you get no argument from me. This is my No. 1 choice above all in the draft, not like it's a surprise at this point.
